WEHPICHECK / BUY WITH A CLEARER PICTURE

Car history checks: build the picture before you buy.

A vehicle can look right in an advert while leaving important questions unanswered. A car history check brings available records together so you can compare the advertised story with recorded events. Start with the registration, then use the findings to plan the viewing and the questions you ask the seller.

What does a vehicle history check cover?

Different checks answer different questions. Vehicle identity describes the registered car; finance searches look for recorded agreements; theft and write-off searches look for recorded markers. MOT and mileage records provide dated observations. Choose a package by its included searches, rather than assuming every provider uses the same definition of a full check.

Read the result, not just a reassuring badge

A finding needs investigation. No record found means the searched source returned no matching record at that time. Unavailable means the search could not establish an answer. None of those outcomes, by itself, proves ownership, condition or that every incident has been recorded.

Choose the right level of detail

Essential covers the core searches described on our package page. Complete adds searches for salvage, additional mileage, taxi use, supported service records and valuation. Coverage varies by vehicle and returned records; historical photos are shown only where available and licensed. Your private report and downloadable PDF keep the findings together.

Use the report at the viewing

Compare the registration, VIN and documentation with the actual vehicle. Keep the advert, report and seller explanations together. Ask for repair or maintenance evidence where a record raises questions, and arrange an inspection suited to the car. A history report supports that process rather than replacing it.

Your questions, answered.

Is a car history check the same as an MOT check?

No. MOT records concern dated tests and odometer observations. They do not provide a complete finance, theft or insurance history.

Will the report show every accident?

No. Unreported damage, private repairs and gaps in available records can remain outside the report.
