WEHPICHECK / BUY WITH A CLEARER PICTURE
Read MOT history, mileage and advisories together.
MOT history provides a dated record of tests rather than a live inspection of the car today. Available results can help you spot repeated concerns and compare recorded odometer readings. Start with the registration on our vehicle page, then follow the sequence of tests and the questions it raises.

Read test dates, outcomes and certificate expiry information before focusing on individual comments. A later pass is a useful recorded event, but it does not list every repair made between tests. Treat comments as starting points for questions about the work and the supporting evidence.
Compare mileage with dates and units
An MOT odometer figure is the reading recorded at that test. It is not the vehicle’s current mileage. Check whether a reading is in miles or kilometres and compare the sequence with invoices and service documents. A discrepancy needs investigation rather than an automatic accusation.
What free MOT history does not cover
An MOT record does not replace finance, theft, insurance write-off or salvage searches. It is also different from a service record. Use it alongside the other checks relevant to your purchase and arrange an inspection when you need an assessment of present condition.
Missing or incorrect records
If a test or detail is unavailable, continue with the official MOT history service and check the vehicle’s documents. GOV.UK explains the records available for different vehicle types and how to address mistakes. Do not treat a missing result as confirmation of exemption or a clean maintenance history.
Your questions, answered.
Is the recorded MOT mileage the current odometer?
No. It is a historical reading taken at a particular test.
Can I check MOT history free?
The official GOV.UK MOT history service is free. Our registration page also displays available MOT information without buying a paid history report.
