Read tyre details before requesting a quote
Confirm the exact specification instead of relying on a similar-looking vehicle.
Read the fitted tyre
A tyre sidewall contains size and rating information. Record it carefully or provide a clear photograph when asking a fitter for help. Some vehicles have different front and rear specifications, so check each relevant position rather than assuming all four match.
Confirm suitability
Use the vehicle manufacturer’s guidance and ask a competent tyre fitter to confirm the proposed replacement is suitable. Size alone is not the whole specification. Loading, speed rating, wheel fitment and any particular vehicle requirements can matter. A registration lookup should still be checked against the actual vehicle.
Keep condition in view
Look for cuts, bulges, uneven wear or other damage and arrange a competent inspection if concerned. Check pressures using the guidance for the vehicle and its load. Do not treat a low price or a recent MOT as proof that the fitted tyres remain suitable today.
Your checklist
- Record front and rear specifications
- Check the actual vehicle and handbook
- Ask about load and speed ratings
- Get visible damage assessed
- Use the correct load-related pressures
