Build a useful service and repair record
Record the work, date and mileage so that future decisions have evidence behind them.
Start with what you have
Gather invoices, service-book entries and digital records supplied by the relevant provider. Sort by date and retain the original descriptions. A missing document does not prove a service happened, and a workshop stamp alone may not explain every item completed.
Use a consistent entry
For each visit, record the date, displayed mileage and unit, business name, work requested, work completed and total paid. Note whether a recommendation was completed or remains outstanding. Keep itemised invoices rather than only card-payment receipts.
Keep private details private
Invoices can contain your address, telephone number and payment information. Store them securely and redact unnecessary personal details before sharing with buyers or requesting competing repair quotes. Follow the manufacturer’s service schedule for your actual model and use.
Your checklist
- Record date and mileage units
- Keep itemised invoices
- Separate completed work from recommendations
- Follow the manufacturer schedule
- Redact personal information before sharing
